So why is a recovery strap, shackles and gloves then included in the kit issued to all responders?
The same thing could be said about the motorway training and clothing.
SY4x4R is never going to get a call for that type of work all the time Highways are in charge of the motorways.
The fire service are never going to call us either to help them.
With all their cut backs if we start to help Surrey will see us as an unpaid asset and will never sort out the fire service.
Been told this from the fire crew themselves.
Search and rescue will all ways be called as they train with the crews and SY4x4R never get called too.
People see SY4x4R as a club and not charity, which is why we need to get out there in people faces at events to be seen.
But this is wrong with some members of the charity see it as NOT CORE role of the charity so you can’t win.
Just sit back and wait for the funds to dry up and see.
Having worked for surrey for over 25yrs people come and go from the departments that SY4x4R deal with and the contact details don’t get passed on to the new candidate. So back to square one every couple of years. But by doing events the people with ‘boots on the ground’ ( that don’t change about as frequently) know who SY4x4R and know how to contact.
So doing loads of events does pay off with the offiacal people.
IE look at
Egham show that wouldn’t of happen if SY4x4R didn’t attend Chertsey show
Wotta events a couple of emails back and forth ask for a stand (willing to pay for to attend) now they pay SY4x4R to attend Local surrey police don’t bother attending if they know SY4x4R are going to be there. Remembrance day they send the bare minimum because of SY4x4R attendance
Fire works Carlshalton the Met police were extremely please with all the efforts and plans SY4x4R had in place even the Inspector came out to meet and greet some of them working. the feed back was the best year ever for no cars moving about in side the road closures.
So all those hrs put in at events talking to people about SY4x4R does pay off shame that the rest of the charity don’t see that and they want to do his wait for the glory work that comes once every 2 years
