Update: I decided to get in touch with the Guildford Lions and said that we were looking into whether we could help them out – specifically with the road closures. Emphasising the fact that I was not promising anything at this stage but to make them aware that we were looking at options.

I received this reply yesterday:

Ed,

Thanks for making contact and offering to support Guildford Lions Firework Fiesta.

Our issue which I think we are close to resolving is raising the additional sponsorship money to fund tasks that hitherto were carried out by the police. Namely road closures and crowd safety / control. We were advised last year to engage with a licensed operator who would provide the appropriate level of cover.

So thanks again for your offer but if, as I think we will, proceed again this year we will use the same company.

Kind regards

Mike

More fool them.

In Sussex we do about ten bonfire celebrations and we do most of the road closures certainly the bigger ones.

Some also have security etc but they tend to deal with the event itself.
