Andrew has given a great summary of the day so only one point to add – the toilets in the care home are not in use so the only option is to go across the road to the nursery. Once you get allocated to your position you cannot leave the building until rescued, and I waited over an hour in a chilly room, so go easy on the coffee!
The fire personnel attending find that evacuating live casualties makes the exercise much more viable for them – they have to be nice to you rather than pulling the dummies down the stairs, so much more realistic! Overall a great experience as the location was very realistic and the scenario well planned, and they looked after the volunteers very well. Allow to be there from 11:15 to 15:00 or so, and hope for fine weather. All the Fire Service personnel were very professional and approachable and it was interesting talking to them and watching them with their kit at close quarters. Recommended.
