George, my son, and I were at LandRover in Solihul on a day long training day last December. We drove a long wheel base Defender (I a TD5 SWB) in the morning and the new Range Rover Sport in the afternoon. The Defender was, of course, great but needed much care and attention to pass some of the obstacles. The Sport was absolutely phenomenal and made everything easy. I suspect it is probably better in all circumstances than the Defender apart from initial cost, maintenance cost, spare part cost and the ability to clean it out with a hose. I would also never want to do with a RRS what I can or do do with my TD5. There is also so much more to go wrong…and it does. I will stick with my draughty, cold, noisy, uncomfortable, thirsty Defender: it is just brilliant.
